Töreboda, nestled in the heart of the Göta Canal's western region in Västergötland where the railway intersects the canal, serves as the ideal launchpad for your adventure. With excellent train connections, arriving and starting your journey here is a breeze. The guest harbor boasts delightful cafes and restaurants, allowing you to savor local delicacies. Wander along the scenic pathway featuring unique benches, donated by Töreboda's businesses, designed for relaxation and contemplation. Vibrant music and lively atmosphere fill the summer evenings, providing the perfect setting for your unforgettable Göta Canal experience.

Everyone in the family greatly enjoyed the trip. It was convenient to be able to rent bike trailers for the children, and the distances between the destinations were just right.

Day 1 - Göta Canal and Sweden's longest avenue

The bike package starts in Töreboda, where you pick up your bike and a picnic lunch at Café Visthuset.

On the first day you cycle on flat terrain towards Tåtorp along the historic towpaths where the boats were once pulled by oxen when the canal was used as a transport route for freighters. Here is Sweden's longest avenue. Don't forget to visit the Göta Canal's only hand-cranked lock, located in Tåtorp.
On the first day, the cycling varies between 5-31 km depending on how far you choose to cycle.

You stay at Hajstorp Slusscafé & Vandrarhem, located in the old bridge keeper's cottage at the lock in Hajstorp. Here you will find a nice room and a simple dinner. In the evening you can sit down, enjoy the genuine canal environment and watch the boats pass by.

Day 2 - Picturesque Sjötorp by Lake Vänern

After a delicious breakfast, the journey continues towards Sjötorp, the port of Göta Canal on Lake Vänern. The road to Sjötorp is mostly downhill and you pass several locks that offer opportunities to take breaks and marvel at the art of locking. Sjötorp is a picturesque place where you can walk around among warehouses and small stalls. Don't forget to visit the interesting Göta Canal Museum!

You check in at Perssons i Backens Pensionat in Sjötorp. In the evening, choose a main course of your choice from the restaurant's menu to enjoy on the pier, right next to the Göta Canal. Perssons i Backen serves fantastic fish dinners.

Day 3 - Breakfast and Homeward Journey

The morning begins with a delicious breakfast buffet, followed by a leisurely bike ride back to Töreboda at your own pace. Seize the opportunity to revisit some of your favorite spots along the way before returning the bikes!

The first day's description needs to be revised: It says it is 7 km, but that is not correct, if you cycle directly to Hajtorp where you will spend the night, it will be 4.5 km. If you cycle to Tåtorp according to the instructions, it will be 3.4 miles to then get to Hajtorp for overnight stay. But the tour was very nice, lovely atmosphere, interesting to look at locks and get into the history behind. Very nice people at the stops. Fun to experience the smaller Hajtorp as well as the larger Sjötorp. Good single bikes, good with bike basket.

Good bikes, bike trailer, food and accommodation. The "hostel" in Sjötorp was a bit difficult to find as it is a guest house now. Keys / check-in takes place at Perssons on the hill where we had to stand in the food queue to check in, which should be stated in the voucher. Overall, we are completely satisfied!!! (Look over the routes, because they are not correct)

Now we have come home from our cycling and we just want to tell you that we are so happy with everything. We thought it was much better to sleep in Hajstorp than it had been in Tåstorp and very pleased that the last night was in Sjötorp instead of Norrqvarn. If you cycle with children, Norrqvarn fits well. The food was very good from Visthuset. Very picturesque in Hajstorp and that you could follow the locks up close. Fantastic rooms at the hostel in Sjötorp and very good food both dinner and breakfast. We thought there would be many cyclists but we did not feel that there were.

Very happy with this cycling vacation. All food was above expectations. The hostel in Tåtorp was very nice and fresh, with a fantastic garden. The hotel was also good, but it would have been positive to know before the purchase of the package that the room included had a toilet and shower in the corridor and not in the room. It would also have been good if it had been possible to upgrade to a room with its own toilet and shower if desired.

A great cycling experience with nice cycle paths. Just long enough for a leisurely holiday pace. Pleasant hospitality and great food. We stayed two nights at Norrqvarn Hotell and upgraded the room to a double room. There was nothing to complain about there either. We were completely satisfied when we went home.

We had a nice holiday, but information in the booking lowers the assessment (without the wrong advance information, the assessment would not have been negative): The pictures of the accommodation differ significantly from how it actually was. The one accommodation was also marketed as an "ecological" hostel even though it was not. For example, the soap provided was not organic (despite the pandemic, there was no soap in the toilets at first). The food at the same accommodation felt a bit boring for the vegans in the group. In general, on the whole experience, we would have liked more vegetables (not only potatoes and carrots). The staff at café visthusute were very service oriented and accommodating, they were great. We had received old information about lunch on the last day, but it was fixed in an exemplary manner!
