After breakfast, you cycle on to the day's destination, which is Abrahams Camp. You pick up a lunch package yourself from the breakfast buffet. The cycling goes on winding roads through farmland and forest areas. In Älmeboda you can stop for coffee or lunch. There is also a homestead here.
At Abrahams Camp you will spend the night in a scenic environment, surrounded by forests and lakes. Dinner is laid out and served at 18:00. Perhaps you will go down to the lake for a swim before it's time to sleep?
Day 3 - Långasjö with traces of the gold rush Klondyke
hotelLångasjö hostel, Långasjö
restaurantBreakfast, lunch and dinner
directions_bikeAbout 27 km
After breakfast, you cycle on towards Långasjö, which is your destination for the day. There are many traces of the emigration era here. The people of Långasjö have put a lot of work into mapping the local emigration. On the church hill stands the Emigration Monument, erected in memory of the 1,400 people who left Långasjö during the emigration years.
Like a miniature Småland lies Klasatorpet, famous for the filming of the emigrant films based on the novel by Vilhelm Moberg. The gold digger's cabin next to the hostel is a replica of a "log cabin" from the Klondyke gold rush. In the cabin's "return room", stories are told in pictures and text about returning emigrants and their continued life in the home village.
Långasjö Hostel is located in the old church stables from the 19th century. Here you live in a scenic location with a bathing area and jetty right next door. After dinner, which is served at 18:00, you can take a walk around the lake (about 1.5 km) before it's time to sleep.
Day 4 - Vilhelm Moberg's parents' home, the Amerikabåten and the Pestkyrkogården
hotelMoshults Hostel, Moshult
restaurantBreakfast, lunch and dinner
directions_bikeAbout 40 km
After breakfast you cycle on and today's destination is Moshult, the place where the author Vilhelm Moberg was born. Within walking distance of Moshults Vandrarhem is the house he grew up in, the school he attended, the paths he hiked and the roads he cycled. The atmosphere and environment influenced his upbringing and later inspired his stories, including "The Emigrants".
Moshult is today a slumbering idyll, but at the beginning of the century the village was
a commercial center with its own railway station, sawmill, peat industry and glassworks. About 2 km from the hostel is Åkerby road crossing. It was a meeting place for the village's emigrants who gathered to get to Karlshamn and the waiting American boat.
Under the oaks below the hostel there is a large cross that marks the burial place of several Moshult residents who died in the plague ravages of 1710-1711. Next to the wall that surrounds the grave is a large stone cairn that has unclear origins. Could it be a sacred place, a sacrificial site or something else from a time that we do not remember? Dinner is served at 18:00 and maybe you choose "Mobergare" where the recipe for the steaks comes from Vilhelm Moberg's housekeeper.
Day 5 - Cycling through the Glass Kingdom
restaurantBreakfast and lunch to go
directions_bikeAbout 30 km
Today it's time for the last stage of this historic bike ride. After breakfast you cycle up towards Korrö. Today you cycle through Glasriket. Stop at Skrufs Glasbruk, where there is a factory sale.
We hope you have had a great time following in the footsteps of the Emigrants and Vilhelm Moberg.
