It is about the largest building project in Sweden's history. Today, the Göta Canal is one of the biggest tourist attractions and for those who want to get to know one of the most beautiful parts of the canal's route, this bike package is perfect. Alongside all the beautiful views, you can see, among other things, the canal's highest land point at 91.5 meters above sea level and the hand-operated lock in Tåtorp.

The scenic bike ride runs all the time on car-free roads a few meters from the canal edge. Start and end point is Töreboda in the middle of the Göta canal section. Here you stay two nights at Bed & Breakfast, convenient to not have to carry your packing and easy to get by train to the starting point. In Töreboda there is, among other things, a K-marked railway station from 1859.

It is easy to take the train to Töreboda - 30 km from Stockholm and 20 km from Gothenburg. Bike rental is available at Café Visthuset about 500 meters from the train station and 400 meters from Pensionat Prästgården.

Day 1

Töreboda - Sjötorp - Töreboda

The journey begins in Töreboda, which is perfect because you can get there by train. Then follows a charming canal-close bike ride past 19 locks to Sjötorp. In Sjötorp, lunch is served at Cafe Baltzar by the harbor basin (obviously named after Baltzar von Platen who is the channel's author). You will learn more about the canal by visiting the canal museum (admission included) located at Sjötorp harbor. When you are happy with the day, it's time to cycle back to Töreboda and the waiting dinner. You stay at Bed & Breakfast and dinner is served at dinner's served at Mandy's Diner in the middle of Töreboda near the Göta Canal. Here rock´n´ role music is played in a nice 50's atmosphere.

Day 2

Töreboda - Tåtorp - Töreboda

After a good breakfast, the bike ride continues to Tåtorp and finally to Töreboda On the way you pass the Wassbacken and then the island of Lanthöjden where you can see the seven meters high obelisk which marks the canal's highest land point at 91.5 m above sea level. The bike ride continues to beautiful Tåtorp where the Göta Canal opens into Lake Viken.

In Tåtorp you can see one of the channel's two hand operated locks. It was built in 1814, is a level loop that regulates the water level between the canal and the lake Viken and has a fall height of 0.2 meters. When you feel satisfied for the day, you cycle back to Töreboda where overnight and food await.

Day 3

Töreboda

Enjoy breakfast on the terrace or hopefully you can sit and enjoy in the lush garden. You also have the bicycles at your disposal this day.

It is no rush, and then you can remember that when the railroad needed to standardize time in Sweden in the mid-1800s to be able to make timetables, it was decided that time in Töreboda was to be the "original time". We hope you have got lots of new memories and pleasant experiences along the Göta Canal.

Nice accommodation and hospitality. Well organized. Unnecessarily stingy that you could not choose the entire lunch offer at Baltzars café due to small price differences. Fun cycle path Töreboda-Sjötorp.

The ones that were sad were that when I booked the price on the page was SEK 2790 / person when I received the payment it was SEK 3100! Then I had booked 1 route but was redirected to another, but in the end I got my route that I ordered! Otherwise, everything was great, but the price annoys me

We were really happy with our little bike holiday. Starting date June 19. The 3rd day we should have breakfast. However, we would like to point out that we did not get any breakfast in Jonstorp .. We were on site from 07.55 - 08.15 .. then we traveled on. Breakfast was to be served from 8am ... but no one showed up. Yours sincerely Åke o Gunilla Nilsson

The marking of the joint in some sections is inadequate. The Töreboda - Sjötorp section no problems, especially as one had the channel as a lead, unlike the Jonsboda - Tåtorp section which eventually withdrew from the channel (maybe because I made the wrong choice with no guided guidance?). In any case, I suddenly found myself on a trail that, according to the label, ended in Karlsborg and decided to give up Tåtorp and, after some annoyance, reached back to Jonsboda.

Fantastic nice bike ride for three days. However, the weather was not so nice, windy and rainy two of the days. Since we cycled so early in the season, the café in Tåtorp was not open yet. May be good to note in the program. Feel free to mention that the sauna, which we hoped for, costs 300 SEK to rent!

The accommodation in Brovaktarstugan was above expectations. We found out that we feel "too spoiled" for staying in a camping cabin, going to the toilet in the dark when you need to go there at night (there was nothing wrong with the cabin). It wasn't that far from Jonstorp to Töreboda. Had we had a face in hand we would have preferred to stay in Brovaktarstugan one more night.
