Something that is extra interesting about the Vänerskärgården and Kinnekulle is that it is one of Sweden's seven biosphere reserves. A biosphere reserve is a model area for sustainable development. Here is Lugnåsberget, which is the starting point for this unusually sustainable bicycle package. In addition to cycling, you can try canoeing, hiking and maybe fishing if you feel like it. The package is designed so that it is perfect for a family who wants to spend time in an environmentally friendly way.

Lugnåsberget is Västergötland's smallest plateau mountain and is located in both the biosphere reserve Vänerskärgården with Kinnekulle and Platåbergens Geopark. Here are marked hiking trails, winding gravel roads and large forests that are suitable for cycling and hiking. Travel here by Kinnekulletåget and walk up to Lugnåsberget Ekohotell or order a ride from the station with Närtrafiken.

Price per adult: SEK 2,295 with accommodation in a family room.

Sustainable assignments at Lugnåsberget

This is a package for the active and nature-interested family, where you both get time to spend time with each other and explore a new place together for four wonderful days. As it is located in a biosphere reserve, we have created some sustainable assignments to inspire families to an environmentally friendly everyday life. You can hike on Stenhuggarstigen, swim in a wood-fired sauna, watch beavers and fish in Lake Vristulven. One of the days includes canoeing in the package. You can also grill over an open fire and try living in windbreaks in the sheep pasture.

Cycling on the family's own terms

A good suggestion is to start with cycling, and you choose how you want to cycle. One variant is to take a walk in the woods. The younger ones usually appreciate the variety and the adventurousness of cycling on trails. It is just as easy to cycle on one of the quiet gravel roads that take you to exciting nature experiences.

For a family with older children or where everyone is an adult, there are several longer bike rides to choose from. The distance to Göta canal is about 50 km. The same distance is to cycle along Vallevägen's rolling hills down to Varnhem. If you feel like cycling uphill and being rewarded in the form of breathtaking views, it is about 30 km to Kinnekulle's highest peak. To Mariestad it is about 20 km if you feel like eating at a restaurant.

In the evening you sleep well in comfortable rooms with shower and toilet. The food is prepared in the shared kitchens. If the weather is worse one day, there are board games to play or books to read aloud together indoors.
