Day 1 - Stockholm, the city by the water

hotelBoutique hotel Hotel Rex or Hotel Hellstens Malmgård, Stockholm
directions_bikeabout 10-33 km

The cycling journey starts in our capital, where you can take a bike ride through the Nationalstadsparken on your own - a green oasis right next to the city where oak and beech forests, open meadows and water mingle with cultural heritage. Out on Djurgården you can go up in the Kaknästornet and from the height of 155 meters you can see the city from above. Here are some of the city's best museums, such as the Technical and Ethnographic museums. Cycle along the Djurgård Canal, take a break and have a drink in the garden at Rosendal, enjoy the views over the water towards Södermalm and Old Town. Then head north to the Hagaparken, in Haga Castle, Crown Princess Viktoria lives with her family. You cycle on car-free gravel roads along Brunnsviken up towards Ulriksdal castle which has a nice park.

The range of restaurants in Stockholm is large, there is something for everyone and you will find a favorite. Then spend a good night's sleep at one of our hotels, the boutique hotel Hotel Rex in the city center with its cozy home feel or the manor-like Hotel Hellstens Malmgård in Södermalm.

Day 2 - Stendörren nature reserve - Nynäs Castle - Trosa

hotelTwo Small Pigs B&B OR Trosa City Hotel
directions_bikeabout 43 km

After breakfast and a transfer from Stockholm, you wander out into the nature reserve Stendörren, a fantastic archipelago area with a number of low small rocky islands linked by suspension bridges. Here it is lovely to swim in the clear Baltic Sea water. Then it's time for cycling and you set off along small roads in the varied landscape of forests, meadows and lakes. Nynäs Castle from the 17th century is worth a break. Here you will find beautiful surroundings with footpaths through a nature reserve, or you can take a guided tour of the castle. The orangery has both a restaurant and a café.

On your continued bike ride, you pass the beautiful beach Sandvik. Today's final destination is Trosa, the small picturesque town on the coast. In summer, the city is a popular destination for sailors and other tourists. You stay at Två Små Svin B&B, in beautiful bright rooms in the mildly yellow wooden houses - right by the canal.

Day 3 - Trosa - Tullgarn Castle - spend the night on a farm

After breakfast you can discover Trosa with its beautiful wooden houses and take a walk on the walkway along the canal. There are many nice restaurants in town and after lunch it is time to cycle to Tullgarn Castle. The royal castle dates back to the 13th century, and the present building dates from the 18th century and is beautifully situated right on the water. The large park is beautiful and there is Tullgarn's Inn, Stallkafé and Orangeri. The bike ride continues to Gnesta and you cycle through sparse pine forest and over open green fields. There is a nice swimming area on Lake Sillen.

In Gnesta, dinner and overnight stays await at the cozy Bed & Breakfast. Here you can swim from the pier at the lake house. The farm has a very beautiful location right on Lake Sillen. Maybe extra fun for the family with children?

Day 4 - Gnesta - Klämmingen - Marviken - Mariefred

hotelSkomakargården B&B OR Röda Magasinet B&B
RestaurantBreakfast and lunch
directions_bikeapprox. 54 km OR cycling 26 km and paddling approx. 9 km (approx. 3.5 h)

This morning you cycle from Gnesta to Laxne along the shore of beautiful lake Klämmingen, where you have good opportunities to stop and swim in the clear water. You pass the small village of Laxne where you can pause for refreshments. In Laxne, you have the opportunity to continue your trip by canoe through Marviken's narrow lake system to Åkers Styckebruk and pause to enjoy your lunch and the unique nature. The area has its own unique character due to its geological history - the mountain was split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today lined with 50 meter high cliffs.

If you don't want to paddle, continue your bike ride through Marviken's lake system and on to the charming town of Mariefred, founded in 1605 and known for its narrow, winding streets and colorful wooden houses as well as being home to one of the most important and magnificent castles in the region, Gripsholm. Overnight awaits at cozy Bed & Breakfast in central Mariefred.

Day 5 - Mariefred with Gripsholm Castle - Taxinge Castle - steamboat to Stockholm

hotelBoutique hotel Hotel Rex or Hotel Hellstens Malmgård. You can also upgrade to the four-star Hotel Hellsten in City
directions_bikeabout 32 km

Today you can choose to discover charming Mariefred, founded in the early 17th century and famous for its small alleys and pastel colored wooden houses. Magnifika Gripsholm Castle houses the State Portrait Collection with over 4,000 works, where visitors can follow the changes in portrait art from the 16th century to the present.

Along the shores of Lake Mälaren and through a rural landscape you travel at your own pace on the bike towards Taxinge Castle. The cycling has hopefully worked up the appetite, because here a sumptuous cake buffet with 65 varieties awaits to choose from. Take your time and enjoy the pastries. Probably stuffed, you tread back to Mariefred, or you choose a historical mode of travel and take the steam train home. In the afternoon you board the steamboat which takes you back to Stockholm on Lake Mälaren's shiny water. For 3.5 hours you can enjoy the views of the lake and relax in the sun on the deck. You stay at one of our hotels in Stockholm.

Sometimes something difficult to find the right way. Description and map sometimes did not quite match. Good with a canoe day as a change.
