If you feel like trying a bicycle package that is based extra on sustainability, this is something for you. Vänerskärgården with Kinnekulle is one of Sweden's seven biosphere reserves. A biosphere reserve is a model area for sustainable development. Here on Lugnåsberget you can enjoy the scents and plants along the roadsides. Challenge up the slopes or rest in silence. You cycle on winding low-traffic gravel roads with beautiful views in exciting environments.
Lugnåsberget is Västergötland's smallest plateau mountain and is located in both the biosphere reserve Vänerskärgården with Kinnekulle and Platåbergens Geopark. Here are marked hiking trails, winding gravel roads and large forests that are suitable for cycling and hiking. Travel here by Kinnekulletåget and walk up to the eco hotel or order a ride from the station with Närtrafiken.
The first day you spend with advantage of local events on Lugnåsberget. Cycle down to Lake Vristulven and into the forest to the old robber nest Tjuvugnen. Cycle on top of the mountain and enjoy the view of Lake Vänern, Kinnekulle and Billingen. Or you look down into the large wolf pit in the middle of the forest. The distances are short and there are many opportunities for stops along the way.
The second day it's time to get acquainted with the pleasant town of Mariestad on the shores of Lake Vänern. In Mariestad we can recommend visiting the University Park and the residence island with its museum. If you are hungry for lunch, one of the stalls in the popular guest harbor may be suitable.
If you want to cycle even further, the Biosfärleden runs between Kinnekulle and Mariestad a few kilometers from the eco-hotel. The Göta Canal is approximately 50 km via Lake Östen. A trip on the beautiful Vallevägen is about 60 km long. You can choose one of the eco - hotel's locally produced food baskets or prepare your own food to take with you to the hotel's guest kitchen.
Time to have breakfast and pack up with many nice bike memories from Västergötland and the areas around Lugnåsberget.
