From Stiklestad, you can choose the outer or inner route to reach your destination - Trondheim and Nidaros Cathedral. Our chosen route follows the outer route and provides close contact with the sea.
The outer route of the St. Olav Trail runs from Stiklestad along the beautiful Lade Allé to Verdal, through towns and villages and long stretches along the Trondheimsfjord. Here the historical sites are close together. The trail is mostly on asphalt and it is easy to find grocery stores along the way. On the outer trail, you can stay overnight in both simple pilgrim accommodation and larger hotels.
If you choose the outer route, you can take a boat from Frosta (Mostad) directly to Trondheim. Please note that the boat does not run every day. Read more about the Pilgrim Boat here. During the period June 1 to August 31, the boat runs regularly every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (except for the dates 5/8, 7/8, 9/8 and 12/8).
The destination of today's stage is Tautra - the island located in the middle of the Trondheimsfjord. Tautra is best known for its medieval monastery ruins, but there is still an active nunnery here today. At Klostergården you will find both good food and comfortable accommodation.
