The first day's stage of the Hjälmar Trail is about 56 km long and runs between Örebro and Arboga. The start is at the historic Örebro Castle, centrally located in the city, and already after a few kilometers you reach Oset and Rynningeviken nature reserve where the views of Hjälmaren open up.

The journey continues towards Glanshammar and further along smaller gravel roads on the way to Arboga. About halfway there is the possibility to make a detour: cycle north to Götlunda (about 6 km extra) for ice cream, inn and local shop, or choose swimming and break at The bathing area of Långgrundet.

At about 44 km you can take a shortcut that saves about 12 km, but then you miss a last beautiful view of Hjälmaren from a bathing place. The last kilometers towards Arboga go through a residential area with some uphills before you reach the center via bike paths.

Hjälmarleden is under development. The municipalities are reviewing the route and preparing signage, and the route choices listed here are suggestions. Have you cycled the trail? Please share your tips and experiences here: https://ivlv.me/izy1F
