This stage of the Hjälmarleden starts at Eskilstuna central station. From the center, you follow mostly car-free bike paths along the Eskilstuna River and further out of town. Soon you'll reach Hållsta, where there's a 24-hour shop and a swimming area - perfect for a short stop or dip.
The journey continues past Bellows Bay on paved road before the trail takes you out on hilly gravel roads with beautiful views of Lake Näshulta. There are also Näshulta Livs, a well-stocked unmanned store with BankID access.
At about 45 km you will pass Magdakullan, an organic farm offering a restaurant, café, cabins and pitches. This is a nice option for a break or overnight stay - but remember to pre-book accommodation and food in advance.
Towards the end of the stage, at Aces, the trail runs a short distance along Road 56. Speed is reduced here but traffic can be heavy, so be extra careful. There is a sidewalk on most of the route. Then you cycle through Äsköping and further on smaller roads until today's destination, Julita farm and gardens, a cultural and historical destination and a highlight along the Hjälmar Trail.
Hjälmarleden is under development. The municipalities are reviewing the route and preparing signage, and the route choices listed here are suggestions. Have you cycled the trail? Please share your tips and experiences here: https://ivlv.me/izy1F
