Kolmården is a mountain and forest area on the border between Östergötland and Södermanland. The area has always fascinated people because of its untouched, wild and dramatic nature. Here you will experience the deep forests in the east, the farmlands in the west, the mills and mansions, the castles and all the historically and culturally rich surroundings of Kolmården or Colmarþ.
Colmarþ is a route for gravel road cyclists, bikepackers and other adventurous cyclists. You mostly cycle along low-traffic gravel roads. There are some stretches of asphalt and also some technically easy trail sections. Please note that some parts of the Colmarþ are demanding. The choice of bike depends on several things. If you only want to cycle the embankment west of Finspång towards Borggård, a bike with no or few gears and narrower tires will work. The embankment is graveled with fine gravel and the route is flat. Other parts are more hilly and then both more gears and coarse, wider tires are preferable. This bikepacking adventure was developed by Velonavia who you can also contact if you have any questions.
A little about the name Colmarþ. The origin is Old Swedish and is pronounced Kolmard. The old round sign þ pronounced much like the -th- in English they.
