Join us on a scenic bike ride from Nyköping's city pulse to the quiet countryside of Runtuna. Along the way you cycle through the cultural landscape of Sörmland with rolling fields, old church roads and historic sites.

Along the way, you'll encounter rune stones and Uppsa Hill, a historic site said to be the burial place of the ancient king Ingjald Illråde. Stop for lunch or overnight at Runnvikens Pensionat, where you can enjoy both good food and beautiful views of the lake. The bike ride starts at Stora Torget in central Nyköping and you cycle mostly on asphalt.

    The vanity

    Fåfängans Kultur- och Trädgårdscafé is a rural oasis. Here you can stop and drink morning coffee or buy something good to take with you on today's bike ride.

    Lake Hovra

    Here you can stop and take a dip. The area around Lake Hovra has a rich history. The valley is characterized by ancient remains, old farms and the Hovra manor.

    Runtuna church

    The fine stone church was built in the 12th century. The area around the church is the richest in rune stones in Sörmland. Three of its stones can be found by the parking lot, one with a large clear cross.

    Uppsa hill

    This is Södermanland's largest burial mound, about 55 meters in diameter and 9 meters high. It is believed to date from the Iron Age, perhaps the 5th century AD. According to legend, it is even the tomb of the fairy-tale king Ingjald Illråde - a character from the Ynglinga saga.

    You can stop by "Tre Sekler Antik & Konsthandel". Well worth a visit for those who are interested.
