A wonderful tour for those who love cycling on beautiful gravel roads and really good food. The bike ride goes from Örebro to Katrinelunds Sjökrog, where you can treat yourself to a taste experience at Hjälmarens beach.
If you choose to cycle the same way back, it will be almost 60 kilometers in total. The Katrinelund tour is signposted and easy to follow.
The tour starts at the historic lock, inaugurated in 1888 when Hjälmaren was lowered and the river straightened into a canal. The small yellow house next to it is the old lock keeper's house - a charming starting point for your cycling adventure.
A paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Here you can cycle along the promenade and enjoy fine viewpoints, picnic areas and the small cottage where the ornithologist Erik Rosenberg once had his lair.
You follow a beautiful road lined with pastures and avenues, past Hjälmarsberg farm from the 1600s. Today it is also home to one of the country's largest Lego stores - a fun surprise for both young and old.
A small nature reserve where ancient oaks reach for the sky. In spring and summer, you can enjoy a rich flora and bird life. A great stop for those who want to enjoy the details of nature.
At this picnic and barbecue area you can rest your legs, take a break at the jetty or just enjoy the tranquillity of the water. A perfect place for a picnic.
A popular swimming spot by Hjälmaren. There's a jetty, changing rooms, an outdoor gym and a children's adventure course - a nice contrast to cycling if you want to take a dip before pedaling on.
On the shores of Lake Hjälmaren lies one of Sweden's most famous seafood restaurants. Top-class dining experiences await here, with menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and the proximity of the lake. An obvious break for those who want to end the bike ride with something very special.
This bike tour is easy and requires no special prior knowledge. Feel free to bring your swimwear and take a dip at Hjälmarbadens bathing area.
You can travel to Örebro by train and bus. On Mälartåg you can bring your bike on board, subject to availability.
