The old commercial town of Köping is located on the inland of Lake Mälaren and has one of the country's largest lake ports. In the middle of the city is Hotel Gillet with 28 personally furnished rooms. There is also a nice restaurant where you can enjoy a well-deserved dinner after today's bike ride or just have a beer. The restaurant has outdoor dining in the summer with views over the Köpingsån river.
Köping got its first city rights as early as 1474 and the city has much to offer it historically interested. Right near the hotel is the Museistråket where there are several different museums worth a visit. One is the Car & Technology History collections with gems like Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and Volvo to view and another is the Apothecal Museum. The latter has a connection with the famous chemist Willhelm Scheele (1742-1786) who lived in Köping.
There are many great cycling opportunities in Koping. One is the rebuilt and paved former railway Köping-Uttersberg Railway (KUJ). A day excursion via the embankment can be to the 17th century manor Kohlswa Manor. Another attraction within cycling distance is the Ströbohög burial mound, which dates to the younger Iron Age.
All rooms at Hotell Gillet are non-smoking and have TV, shower / WC and free wireless internet. When you stay at the hotel, you can start the day with a good breakfast buffet that is included in all room rates.
